The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has announced that new food labelling could be introduced to promote produce from British Farmers.
Food from British Farmers is said to be of “extremely high quality” according to George Eustice from Defra. This new food labelling system would help even more to promote British produce. Previous campaigns such as the Red Tractor campaign have already tried to encourage consumers to buy British whenever possible in order to support British Farmers.
The Red Tractor Campaign has been running for over 20 years now. In that time they have become the biggest farm and food assurance scheme. This organisation aims to provide quality and standards assurance to any food and drink marked with the Red Tractor Logo.
A separate campaign launched earlier this year also aims to make food labels more transparent on where food has come from; this will help to improve this further.
With all these improvements to food labelling in the UK going on; in the coming months it should become much easier for consumers to understand where the food has come from. As well as the quality of the food they are buying.
