Could Digital Vending Machines be the Future of Shopping?

Nearly a year on from the start of the first UK lockdown; it’s clear that every aspect of our everyday lives has been affected. Every retail business, including our own, has needed to adapt to a new way of working or serving customers.

However, a recent news article in Farming UK showcased a business that hasn’t had to adapt as much is Thorneybank Farm Shop in Inverurie, Scotland. Two years ago, this farm shop installed digital vending machines to sell their fresh produce. Their selection of farm fruit and vegetables as well as meat produce are packaged up and placed inside a state-of-the-art vending machine. Customers would then be able to enter the number of the product they wanted, and the relevant door would open.

Whilst two years ago this seemed like merely an innovative, and maybe even novelty way of selling local produce; the Farm Shop has seen its setup come into its own. Their shop is now able to offer a virtually ‘Zero-Contact’ shopping process. So it seems like this Scottish farm shop was one of the only businesses in the country that was ready for social distancing and the Coronavirus pandemic!

How Burts Have Adapted in the Coronavirus Pandemic

Making sure you provide a service that reduces the spread of Coronavirus has become much more important for everyone. At Burt’s Catering Butchers, we have also had to adapt the way we sell our meat products to our customers. Before the pandemic, we were selling our produce to retail businesses such as restaurants and pubs.

But with many of these being forced to close their doors; we have turned to help our local community and introduced our Home Delivery Service. This is where you can place an order online and get our high-quality meat and fresh produce delivered straight to your door with ‘Zero Contact’ delivery.

We’ve been providing this service for nearly 11 months now, and we’ve served hundreds of customers in our local area. We’re still providing this service; delivering to Eastbourne, Bexhill, Cooden, Battle, Hastings, Polegate, Hailsham, and all the towns and villages in between.

We have plenty of high-quality meats such as Beef, Chicken, Pork, Lamb, Sausages, Bacon and Bacon. We also offer a wide range of Deli & BBQ products as well as everyday essential items such as tinned food and flour. This makes our delivery service perfect for if you’re looking to get some essential food and meat produce for your meals, but don’t feel comfortable venturing out to the shops.

So whilst we aren’t at the vending machine stage, we have definitely adapted to our environment around us.
