British Pie Week could be celebrated every week of the year, according to Burts. But it’s official weekly celebration is just around the corner and so we couldn’t let the week pass us by without mentioning it!
Instigated originally by pastry giants Jus-Rol, it has now grown into a “thing” and the idea of eating meat pie all week is a joy to be sure…
Coincidentally, The British Pie Awards are also now on 7 March, having been moved from April, to coincide with this brilliant idea of British tradition. The Awards are held in Melton Mowbray, the Rural Capital of Food, and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association. Following controversy at the 2016 Awards, with the pie in question being none other than the home favourite Dickinson and Morris Melton Mowbray Pork Pie.
Pubs, restaurants, pie shops and more are using British Pie Week to run com-pie-titions, pie specials, while supermarkets sometimes use the week to discount their pie ranges. Everyone knows about it, everyone loves a bit of pie and all resellers will be taking full advantage in selling more PIE!
So, what we want to know is…what is your favourite choice of pie? Well obviously, at Burts, our favourite pie of choice will be made of meat rather than sweet. But there is still a rather large choice within the savoury market.
Chicken and ham, chicken and mushroom, chicken and bacon…steak and ale, beef and onion, steak and mushroom, beef and potato, or the real classic of steak and kidney! All these can be with either shortcrust or puff pastry, both equally delicious. And then you get your pork pie selection, with hot water crust pastry. And what about venison pie, game pie… the list could go on and on.
Take a look at last year’s huge menu selection from Pierate.co.uk, with the favourite rankings and where they come from. Make the most of British Pie Week and eat loads of pie!
